This information is for duty holders to help them comply with their legal duties. Duty holders include employers, those in control of premises, and those with health and safety responsibilities for others.

Their duties include identifying and assessing the source of risk; preparing a scheme to prevent or control risk; implementing, managing and monitoring precautions; keeping records of precautions; and appointing a manager responsible for others.

Several pieces of legislation apply to this subject:-

  • Health and Safety at Work etc. Act (HSWA)
  • Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations (MHSWR)
  • Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations (COSHH)
  • Notification of Cooling Towers and Evaporative Condensers Regulations 1992

  • Legionnaires’ Disease Technical guidance Part 2: The control of legionella bacteria in hot and cold-water systems HSG274 Part 2

How can BCarm's Health & Safety Management System help you manage your Legionella risk?

Risk Assessment

Carry out Risk Assessments - it is a legal duty to identify and assess whether there is a risk posed by exposure to Legionella from operating the cooling system or any work associated with it.

Risk Assessments in BCarm have suggested control measures, which you can tailor to your own needs.

Equally, you can add your own, which then builds a library of control measures which can then be used in future Risk Assessments, helping maintain consistency.

Maintaining your Control Measures

Risk Assessments allow you to create proactive safety reporting regimes in between your annual Risk Assessment review. By proactively monitoring regularly whether your control measures are operative or not, you’re identifying potential issues before they occur.

This will also give you a performance score, so it helps you manage performance over time and build Safety Performance KPI's.

Checklists

With editable templates and the ability to build your own, you can create a variety of controls that are instantly reportable in BCarm, such as: -

  • Pre-start and close-down daily checks
  • Weekly inspection and system flush through Checklists
  • Water system component/equipment Checklists
  • Water temperature and cleaning regime Checklists

All the above also generate performance scores to set KPI’s, assess trends, manage performance and allow corrective action to be captured and assigned to individuals when completing the Checklist.

Safe Systems of Work

You can produce these for different aspects of your water systems if required.

These can also be turned into Training Records with our Safety Briefings feature.

Asset Manager

To manage statutory inspections and your own maintenance checks.

Task Management

Corrective action from monitoring of risk assessments and use of checklists can be tracked and managed to ensure shortfalls are addressed. This will support Plan-Do-Check-Act if you have ISO45001.

HSM App - via Tablet or Mobile

With the BCarm HSM App you can easily access Checklists, Task Management, Incident Manager, Asset Manager and the Information Library wherever you are, regardless of whether you have an internet connection or not. The App automatically syncs with the system once the device is online. To see the App in action click here.

Management Alerts

Can notify you where there are shortfalls arising from your Legionella Risk Assessments or Checklists.

Reporting Centre

Use the Custom Reports and Dashboard builder to create a dashboard to display the data from all your Water system checks and activity above, for instance:-

  • Performance of your risk assessment's control measures
  • Performance reported using your checklists
  • Performance of maintenance checks
  • Corrective action task completion rates

Training Matrix

To manage training, refreshers, and renewals,  including internal and external training, and retaining certificates.

Safety Briefings

Any Risk Assessment, Method Statement, Safe System of Work or Checklist can be instantly turned into a training tool that allows employees to sign "digitally" that they have received and understood the training.
