An interesting bit of research carried out highlights key concerns in the global workplace following the impact of COVID-19.

Research carried out by The Workforce Institute and UKG (Ultimate Kronos Group) highlights key concerns in the global workplace following the impact of COVID-19. Including that 42% of the UK employees were most concerned by cleanliness and sanitation in the physical workplace.

Perhaps it’s not unsurprising that health and safety is a priority concern for some individuals; Maslow’s hierarchy of human needs theory puts physiological needs first as the most essential thing a person needs to survive, followed by the need to feel safe and secure in their life and surroundings.  Basic needs lower down in the hierarchy must be satisfied before individuals can attend to needs higher up. From the bottom of the hierarchy upwards, the needs are: physiological, safety, love and belonging, esteem, and self-actualization.

Equally, when you look at the 4 typical personality types, one has “demotivators” around change/confrontation/uncertainty and another around failure for standards to be adhered to.

How can we satisfy our employees concerns?

A key part of making sure employees healthy and safety concerns are being met is making sure the correct measures are in place, that they perform as they should and that this is communicated with the wider business, so that all employees understand what the business is doing for their safety and well-being.

Questions to ask yourself?

  1. Has your business got the necessary measures, protections and procedures in place?
  2. Can you record and measure their performance?
  3. Are you communicating both the measures/arrangements and their ongoing performance on a regular basis?

But, remember the Rule of 7; human being need to hear things 7 times before the information is fully received! Have you told your workforce enough what you are doing for their safety and well-being.
